Creativity Exercise 4: Thought Expression

Image
I am on exercise 4 in Regina Pacelli's book, Whole Lotta Creativity Going On , and I am honestly second guessing my book choice because I can draw nothing but blanks, at first. In exercise 4, we are given the prompt, "early to the vine" and are tasked to come up with 4 ideas of what that phrase could possibly mean. Each idea should be different. The first should be believable; the second should be witty; the third should evoke thoughts of peacefulness; and the fourth is to be utterly outlandish. To me, this exercise is challenging me to perform similarly to the way an AI image generator and/or chatbot does.  My first thought was "grapes". I would wake up early to go to work in a beautiful vineyard to tend to some wine grapes.    My next thought was the song, "I heard it through the grapevine" as in, the song by the late Marvin Gaye in which he refers to grapevine communication. According to AI, grapevine communication is defined as   a type of informal...

Blog Post 3 - Design

Blog 3 - Design For my magazine cover, I chose Yoga Journal because I enjoy practicing the Yoga and I am interested in learning more through a Yoga teacher certification. To create the cover image, I used the prompt "ohm" and the image generator because the generator in Photoshop can support over 100 different languages. At the end of our yoga sessions we end with chanting om. So when I was sitting at my computer trying to think of a prompt, I enter "om" as I meditated and generated the following images: When I removed the letter "h" and prompted the generator with "om" again, the generator generated these images: Next, I added the word "symbol" to the prompt. The prompt, "om symbol" created these images:  I loved all the generated images. To me they all look very psychedelic. The gold in the last three images gave me the feeling of what neurons firing would look like inside the brain. None of the first nine images generated...

Blog Post 2 _ Design

This weekend, my family and I took on a road trip to  Dothan, Alabama for my great uncle's funeral. A lot of my family members, many of whom are school-aged children, made the trip so we went in a caravan of six cars. I had never been to Alabama before the funeral, so I easily got talked into going.  While in Alabama, I learned a lot about Dothan.  I decided to make my travel poster about Dothan, AL because I it is not a place one would normally think of as a tourist destination. However, it's not a terribly far drive and I have family there that I might want to get to know more. I think I would like to go back to Dothan and visit under, happier circumstances of course.

Creativity Exercise 3: Awareness, Sensory and Experience

The Rules The next creativity exercise is in the Awareness, Sensory and Experience category. The exercise asks that I spend at least part of my day in pantomime. My first instinct was to skip this creativity exercise and go on to the next one. I'm not a very people-ly person. However, I made a commitment, and for the sake of remaining true to my word, I’m going to do my best. Option 1 As if on cue, my crazy uncle sends me a text. “What are your plans for tomorrow?” Well, well, well, I just found my homework partner. Later, in the day, I’m supposed to pick up my new car from the dealership. Wouldn’t it be more interesting to try to complete that task in pantomime. Option 2 I have a young son, who has been non-verbal his entire life. At first I believe it was a phase that he would eventually outgrow. But recently, he was diagnosed with autism and now we must come to terms with the real possibility that he may never talk. Now I wonder, how will he purchase a car in the future or ho...

Creativity Exercise 2 - Ideation

Moving on to exercise number 2 in Regina Pacelli's Whole Lotta Creativity Going On, the author give a scenario and the challenge is to complete the scenario with possible explanations. Scenario:  A woman in an expensive blue dress ran out of a restaurant and got into a cab which then raced away. Possible Explanations A loved one died. She skipped out on the bill. She was an undercover cop on a sting. She was on her period and had a stain on her dress. She had diarrhea. Her date proposed and she said "no". It was a company event to which the dress code was all white attire, she didn't get the memo. There was a bomb threat. She spotted an ex-lover with her best friend. She just felt like running. She was at the wrong restaurant. She was late for work.  'Emergency phone call. 'Sick kid at school. 'Stood up by her date 'Someone went into labor. 'Her home alarm system sent an alert of an intruder. 'She forgot her wallet. 'She forgot the stove on...
